Last night my little sister (5th grade) was making an e-mail account

She saw gender and went to click female when she noticed the “other” choice

She looked at me confused and I started to explain that some people don’t think they fit in with strictly male or female

"Oh! You mean like transgender and stuff like that. I was freaked out for a second- I thought they meant robots."

Yet another example the kids are more open-minded than adults

In the past few weeks, I have been called fat as an insult on two separate occasions. Specifically, “stupid fat ass” and “ugly fat bitch.” I have a couple of things I want to say about this.. 1) although it may be hard to believe, I don’t usually forget that I am overweight. But thank you to those people who want to remind me. 2) If I wasn’t fat, what insult would I be deserving of? Someone looks at me, sees that I am fat, and then they automatically think it’s like this horrible negative thing that can be held against me. Why can’t you just call me a bitch instead of a fat bitch? Why is that more insulting? 3) Why does my weight have anything to do with why you are insulting me in the first place?
I’m almost finished, promise.
I am not looking for people to tell me not to worry about my weight, or give me cliches about true beauty, or whatever. What I’m saying is that there are people who feel it is okay to treat me like I am beneath them based on a quick glance at my appearance and that is NOT OKAY. I am a nice person, with family and friends that love and accept me for who I am. I don’t need anyone’s hatred, and I certainly don’t need their approval. I just want everyone to remember that we’re all human. We all have our struggles. Please remember that the next time you think about insulting someone.

A list of all the misogynistic, victim-blaming, and sympathetic comments I found (that weren’t obvious trolls) on Elliot Rodger’s motive confession video. I could easily make a few more lists, like one for the mountain of comments saying he should have just bought a prostitute, or one for the disgusting homophobic comments suggesting that he was really just gay.

After reading that last one, especially the last line, I couldn’t continue.

Hotel showers are really weird because they can range anywhere from “gently peeing on you” to “I fear for the safety of my nipples”
